Samantha

Sobbing into her pillow didn’t solve anything. Sam wiped her eyes and stepped into the shower. She’d expected more of a response to her text.

He must be angry with her because Sam couldn’t deny that his kiss signaled interest. How could she have been so stupid?

After a shower, her eyes didn’t look quite so puffy. She checked the weather and studied the map. If she left first thing in the morning, she could make the trip in two days and still be home in time to be back at work.

That meant she had to survive one day of questions.

Gemma grinned. “Morning! Antoine and I are headed out to look at neighborhoods. Mac and Paige went home. I’m not even sure where Kaci and Drake ran off to.” She shot a look at Antoine. “You are welcome to come with us if you … don’t want to be alone.”

“We’d love to have you.” Antoine was always a gentleman.

Tempting as it was to go along and find out what Garrison had told his friend, Sam declined. “I’m just going to hang out here. Maybe take a walk or soak in the jacuzzi.”

“Have fun!” Hand in hand, Gemma and Antoine strolled away from the house.

Just to rub salt in the wound, Sam checked her messages again. Garrison wasn’t going to reply. With his record of avoidance, he might even just tell her to keep the car so he didn’t have to see her again.

She’d give it a few days then send a word to start the game. Would that be enough to mend fences?
